Future generation foodstuff --- CHAMPEX®
CHAMPEX® is a functional extract of a mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, which has worldwide dietary consumption.
While CHAMPEX® has been widely used in foods for the control of mouth, body and fecal odors, and improvement of bowel conditions, it is only relatively recently that we have become aware of the ability of CHAMPEX® to cleanse the blood.
The future generation foodstuff, which makes our bodies healthier ---- CHAMPEX®.
ABOUT CHAMPEX®
CHAMPEX® is a functional foodstuff extracted from a mushroom, Agaricus bisporus.
CHAMPEX® adds new value to ordinary foods. Given the worldwide dietary consumption of Agaricus bisporus, there should be no doubt as to its safety for daily consumption.
Taking note of the mushroom's natural deodorizing properties, in 1987 we initiated research into extracting the active ingredients from greenhouse-grown mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus). In the course of our research, we discovered that CHAMPEX® also has the ability to cleanse the human blood. This cleansing function is considered beneficial for numerous practical applications, such as activating the immune system, inhibiting the growth of H. pylori, arresting the progress of chronic renal failure and reducing active oxygen.
CHAMPEX® is currently used in a wide range of candies, jellies, beverages and health diets for hospital use. It is being adopted for a growing array of new applications, including foods for specific health purposes.
A portion of the foods we ingest is decomposed and converted by intestinal bacteria into toxic chemicals such as ammonia, indole, skatole, tryptamine, mercaptans, hydrogen sulfide and amines. These products can cause fecal, mouth and body odors. Furthermore, these toxic by products can cause various problems such as diseases and aging.
< Diseases caused by intestinal putrid products >
Intestinal putrid products | Exposure limit (ppm) | Concentration in feces (ppm, average of the aged) | Diseases |
---|---|---|---|
ammonia | 25ppm | 70ppm | hepatic encephalopathy, nausea, fever |
amines | 25ppm | 10ppm | inflammation, hypertension, cancer |
mercaptans | 0.5ppm | 60ppm | anemia, fever, coma, cerebral disorders |
hydrogen sulfide | 10ppm | 12ppm | hypotension, nausea, loss of appetite |
indole skatole tryptamine | - | - | cancer, leukemia |
A portion of the foods we ingest is decomposed and converted by intestinal bacteria into toxic chemicals such as ammonia, mercaptans, indole, hydrogen sulfide. These by products are not only offensive but also harmful substances with high toxicity. It is known that these products cause renal failure, liver disease, hypertension, cancer and other diseases. CHAMPEX® is able to suppress these products. In addition, CHAMPEX® has various functions that help our bodies become healthier, suppress putrid chemicals and control mouth and body odors.
1) Control of putrid substances
Consumed orally, CHAMPEX® reacts with putrid substances in the intestines. CHAMPEX® was administrated to eight volunteers using a daily dose of 500 to 1,500 mg. The concentration of ammonia and sulfides were determined using ammonium and sulfide electrodes, respectively. Indole, skatole and phenol values were determined using gas chromatography.
As shown in the figures below, typical putrid substances decreased by 40 to 60% after ingestion of CHAMPEX® for 14 days, compared with odors before the CHAMPEX® regimen.
2) Suppressive effect on foul breath
Methylmercaptan concentration measured using GC method,
CHAMPEX® was accurately weighed in amounts of 2, 5 and 10mg. Each quantity was then dissolved in 3ml of distilled water. Immediately after, each solution was poured into a 125ml vial, then standard methylmercaptan was injected into the vial to obtain a 0.5ppm solution. Using CHAMPEX® at 2mg and 5mg, the methylmercaptan disappeared completely after 45 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively.
Organoleptic test of mouth odors:
An organoleptic test was conducted, involving 63 female college students. Following a meal of garlic-seasoned barbecued meats, each participant took a candy containing 0.125% CHAMPEX®. Fifty-eight of the 63 participants (92%) responded that CHAMPEX® was effective in eliminating mouth odors.
3) Suppressive effect on fecal odors
Following operations for colon cancer, nine patients ingested five CHAMPEX® tablets (BX100FPD-S 500mg/day) for 30 day. The intensity of fecal odors was compared before and after ingestion. Compared with an odor intensity of 100% prior to ingestion, foul odors decreased to 43% after 10 days of using CHAMPEX® and 29% after 20 days.
Blood purification
One of the toxic chemicals in your blood, ammonia, is known to cause hepatic encephalopathy, paralyzing cranial nerves if the ammonia blood level increases excessively.
Blood ammonia levels were measured after CHAMPEX® jelly was given to 14 elderly inpatients for 30 days. Ammonia levels began to fall after 10 days, and fell off remarkably after 30 days.
1) Activation of the immune system
Natural killer cells are an important first line of defense against newly arising malignant cells and cells infected with viruses, bacteria, or protozoa. Medical research has shown that low NK cell activity is present in most morbid conditions. After oral ingestion of CHAMPEX® to 14 patients, at 400mg for 30 days, NK cell activity had substantially increased. CHAMPEX® was proven to be highly effective in increasing the activity of NK cells.
2) Increase of Bifidobacteria with decrease in Clostridia
Maintaining a dominant balance of Bifidobacterium in the enteric bacterial flora is recognized as an important step for protection against cancers, arteriosclerosis and other elderly diseases. CHAMPEX® (BX100FPD-S) was ingested by eight volunteers using a daily dose of 500 to 1,500 mg and the fecal bacteria populations were examined. The results indicated a substantial increase in the Bifidobacterium population while Clostridia populations decreased significantly.
3) Control of progressive renal failure
As chronic renal failure advances, the levels of both creatinine clearance (Ccr) and reciprocal of serum creatine (Scr-1) decrease. Continuous ingestion of CHAMPEX® (BX100FPD-S 2,000mg/day) for more than 3 months improves these indexes and arrests the progress of chronic renal failure.
4) Elimination of oxygen radicals
Excess oxygen radicals may lead to cancer or arteriosclerosis. In vitro experiment shows that a low concentration (10µg/ml) of CHAMPEX® effectively decreases oxygen radicals by approximately 50%.
5) Suppression of leucotriene
Leucotriene is a major substance of direct allergens for asthma. Low concentrations (10µg/ml) of CHAMPEX® inhibits in vitro the generation of leucotriene by approximately 50%.
6) Prevention of gout
Increased uric acid in the blood causes gout, which is accompanied by severe pain. If it increases excessively, it causes vascular disorders in the brain and heart, and urinary calculus. In vivo experiments indicate that a regimen of CHAMPEX® (BX100FPD-S 100mg/kg) is effective in decreasing the blood level of uric acid by 35%.
7) Growth inhibition of H. pylori
Helicobacter pylori appears to be the origin of intestinal ulcers and stomach cancer.
A 40 to 80 dilution of CHAMPEX® (BX100) is effective in suppressing the growth of various clinically isolated strains of Helicobacter pylori.
Strains of H. pylori | Growth inhibition | |
Dilution | ||
40 | 80 | |
ATCC43526 ATCC43629 ATCC43579 | x x x | - - x |
Clinical strain1 Clinical strain2 | x x | - - |

Prevention of aging
Excessive oxygen radicals may lead to cancer or arteriosclerosis. In vitro experiments show that a low concentration (10µg/ml) of CHAMPEX® effectively decreases oxygen radicals by approximately 50%.
CHAMPEX® is available to food manufacturers only, as a raw material.
